I spent most of today sifting through 200-300 horse photos in files on my computer to select a few new images for possible paintings. It is rare for a photo to be perfect in composition with good lighting and values. Most of the time some cropping and enhancing is necessary, which is part of my pre-painting process.
Sometimes the animal is already too cropped in the photo and I have to use 2 or 3 other photos for reference to create one complete image.
Sometimes I will take several shots of an almost identical pose and have none that will work as paintings.
All in all, it was a productive day... I have 4 new miniature horse paintings sketched and ready to go and a couple of cows!!! Check back during the week for the results.
